Organizing Your Closet 101

Now that you have made the commitment to organize your closet, you face yet another dilemma: who will do it and how much will you spend for it. Actually, these two questions are interlinked with each other. If you will not hire a professional to do it, definitely you will save on labor costs, but that doesn’t mean that you will spend less, over-all. You might end up spending more if you can’t do it perfectly the first time. So the decision of who will be doing the actual work of organizing your closet is a very crucial one.

Hiring a professional may turn out to be the right choice, particularly if you want to install a wood closet organizer. A wood closet organizer not only organizes your closet, it does so in a manner that adds value to the aesthetics as well. You even have choices on what type of wood you want for your closet organizer – oak, maple, or any other type of wood. Professionals will save you time since they will surely do everything right in one sitting. Just as long as you are able to clearly convey what you want done to your closet, these professionals will deliver that to you and you just have to decide on whether you want a natural-finish wood organizer or a stained one.

Installing a wood closet organizer can be do-it-yourself, but make sure that you have the correct measurements of your existing closet. There are kits that can be bought off the rack and these will already include rods, nuts, bolts and everything that you might need to install your wood closet organizer. You should choose one that is less complicated, with simple, easy-to-follow instructions. There are even some specialty store like Simple Closets that customize these wood closet organizers for you, and you can even order online. All you need to do is give them the layout of your closet, including dimensions and pictures, and specify what you want to do. They will then come up with a kit which you pick up anytime and this will be collapsible and ready to be installed in your next closet (provided of course that the dimensions correspond) immediately.

Organizing your closet should be an enjoyable task, with pleasant outcomes to look forward to. Certainly, using wood organizers for your closets will boost the look of your closet, and will even set your day right as your beautiful closet greets you in the morning right after you wake up. So it will be quite logical to invest some money into improving and organizing your closet with a wood closet organizer!

How To Organize Bedroom Closets

Whether you have a standard closet or walk in, organizing your bedroom closets can be easily accomplished. It gives me a great sense of pride to open my closet and have everything organized and accessible.

Even if you have a small closet there are techniques that you use so you are using all the space you have available to your organizing advantage.

Take everything out of the closet and measure length, width and depth. The worst thing is to buy a product and it does not your space or your needs. Decide if you need more shelving space or hanging space. Make a layout of your closet and space in your needs. Now that you have decided what you need and what you want you are ready to start organizing your closet.

The first step to organizing your bedroom closet is to get rid of the clothes that you do not wear. Yes, you may love it but do you wear it, is the garment your style, does it fit? If you have answered no to any of these, then it is time to donate the garment. Make piles as you go through your clothes, donate or throw away. I personally donate all my clothes to Good Will.

When you put your clothes back into the closet, organize them so it will be easier for you to find items that you need. Hang all long sleeve shirts together by color and all short sleeve shirts by color. The same for pants.

There are add on clothing bars you can add into your closet or closet rods so that you can hang your shirts on one row and your pants below…saves a ton of space. You could also install shelving that doubles as a shelf and rod together increasing your shelf and bar space.

And for us short people an easy reach closet hook is great, no more standing on a stool to get what you want from your closet. Utilizing the higher space in your closet will increase your usable area.

I know that you are with me when I say all those little things in the closet drive you crazy! Belts and Ties slipping off the hangers is the worst. Invest in an inexpensive non slip tie and belt holder and not only will your bedroom closet be more organized but will lessen your aggravation level.

I know that most of us women, have more than 1 handbag, some lots more. There are also great ways to organize your handbags and still keep your bedroom closet organized.

OK, so I admit it, I am a shoe addict! I love shoes, heels, wedges, sandals, sneakers I have them all and then some. Hmmm now where to store than all and keep them organized.

You could keep them in their original boxes but then you can’t see what’s in each one unless you label them or use clear shoe boxes.
Depending on your space limitations, there are many ways to keep your shoes neat, orderly, organized and easily accessible.

Another option is to utilize under your bed as storage. By storing your shoes or other items under your bed, you will be freeing up space in your closet. This is a great option if you have a small closet or limited space.

I just have to say a word about hangers, it’s a thing with me. I actually have colored hangers, blue to one son, green to another, black to husband. Plastic hangers or wood hangers with no slip pads are great. There are so many different types of hangers it’s actually surprising. Wood, Plastic, Tiered, Pants, Shirts and the list goes on…..

Tiered Shirt and Slack hangers will save space in your closet by not using so many hangers.

Bedroom Closet Organizers

If you are like most people, your life is pretty hectic. Whether you spend your days in the office, in the fields, with your children, etc., you are busy. Your home should be a haven. When you come into your bedroom, you want to relax, unwind, rest. That is difficult if you can’t even open the closet door for fear of having items fall on your head! The first step to creating a relaxing bedroom retreat is installing a bedroom closet organizer.

Bedroom closet organizers are available to match most any décor. No matter your personal style or the size of your closet, there is probably a closet organizer to match. You are limited only by your own imagination—and perhaps your budget. Bedroom closet organizers are available in a wide variety of materials, styles, and price ranges. Materials such as wood, metal, wire, and laminate are readily available.

Bedroom closet organizers are commercially available as either closet organizer kits or closet organizer systems. Kits are less expensive and are available at most local home improvement stores and some department stores. Closet organizer kits contain all shelving, hardware, and components needed. Most are adjustable, so there is usually no cutting involved. However, many bedroom closet organizer kits will needed to be installed, so drilling is usually required. Kits cost around and up.

Bedroom closet organizers are also available as closet organizer systems. These modular units are pre-assembled. You simply have to measure your space and determine the correct pieces. These units can be permanently mounted to the wall or temporary floor-based units. An assortment of configurations is available depending on the size of the closet and your individual needs. Shoe racks, shelves, racks, drawers, and more are available, and can be mixed and matched to create a unique look. How To: Scrapbooking Ideas For a Gardening Page

Scrapbook page ideas: Gardening

In the hustle and bustle of modern day life from chaotic rush hour traffic to work commitments and family engagements a lot of people now find peace, solitude and comfort in gardening whether it be a vast expanse of lush, ride-on mower lawn or a small plot in a communal garden or an allotment you can escape to from your high rised flat.

There’s a great sense of accomplishment and satisfaction in working the earth and knowing that as shoots sprout and blossoms bloom that your tender, green fingered, touch and attention brought these births into being.

Having recently moved into a rented house where the previous occupants weren’t even aware that the attached garden was theirs and therefore the garden in question was given over to wildlife with two foot high grass and weeds populating every available space a before and after scrapbook page seemed like a brilliant idea.

In this day and age with advances in technology making digital cameras a fairly cheap addition to every household, a great place to start is photographing the untamed state of your garden before your rescue project.  It will never look this way again so don’t miss the opportunity to document this period in your garden’s personal eco-system.  Also bear in mind the subtle changes that seasons bring and how the colours and variety of growth shift throughout the year, from summer to winter hardy flowers and the russet turn of deciduous leaves.

As you’re planning your garden it’s a good idea to think of it like a D.I.Y. home improvement and draw out an aerial view of your ground space and have control over the design.  Mark out your flowering beds and list which perennials you will plant and what colours of petals you want your seasonal flowers to adorn.  Mark out your vegetable patch or pond or where you want to put a bird bath or garden bench taking into consideration where is bathed with most sunlight, where the ground is tough or stony and what kind of soil is needed to encourage growth.

It is easy to forget what went where so sticking your plan into a scrapbook and labelling your garden purchases is a quick and easy way of keeping track.

If you are an avid, crafty, scrapbooker as well as an enthusiastic gardener such a wonderful page topic is full of colourful, creative potential.  Here are a few ideas to make your gardening scrapbook paper come to life:

Make your own recycled paper:

What you will need:

Waste paper (this can be old newspaper, or to keep the gardening theme pure how about an old gardening magazine but even normal white printer paper is fine.  Add some old Christmas cards if you want the paper to be thicker and stronger.)

A frame mould (this can be professional or can be achieved by stretching some stockings over a bent rectangle coat hanger or the inside of a wooden canvas frame or even photo frame)

Starch (will help if you want to write on your finished paper as it makes it less porous for the ink)

Glue (to help bind the paper – not all how-tos use this)

A basin big enough to easily fit in your frame mould

Water

A blender

Food colouring

Optional extras such as flower petals from your garden or how about strand of glister thread or thin strips of metallic foil, even a few plant seeds?

Shred your paper into small pieces and make your frame if necessary. (see above)

Add paper and warm water to your blender and blend until you have a messy, sticky pulp and no recognisable paper particles are left. (usually under a minute)

Take your basin and cover the bottom in water, not too deep say 3 or 4 inches.

At this point you can stir in some glue and starch to the basin water if desired.  Also you can mix in your flower petals etc and add a few drops of food colouring to your pulp to stain your paper.

Use your frame mould to scoop up and gently spread out a thin layer of pulp.

Leave to dry

As it dries you may want to sponge out some excess water or one technique is to iron out the water from your dried paper layer.

Peel off mould – this whole process is messy and may take some time to master so don’t be disheartened.

Now as for the actual scrapbooking be inventive.  You could press and dry some flowers from your garden and glue them too your page.  Also why not stick in your seed packets and maybe even a few seeds?

Fill your page with photographs of your gardens progress and anecdotes for future reference.  If you are growing vegetables you could even add in some pictures of finished cooking ideas and write in some recipes.

You can cut out pictures of birds, insects or animals that frequent your garden from old magazines or cards and maybe some gardening tools such as watering cans, spades, garden rakes and forks.

If you are feeling artistic why not use some leaves or petals as stencils, dabbing on some paint and leaving their outline?  Buy some floral craft paper to make frames for your floral photographs and there is a vast variety of flower and leaf ink stamps or paper cutters out there to add some more detail.

All in all enjoy your time in the great outdoors, the sun beating down and bronzing your shoulders.  Your children will love to give you a helping hand and you could teach them so much about propagating flowers and planting and growing your own organic food as well as more scientific aspects such as pollination and insect life.

The end result will hopefully be a blooming success, your own secret garden sanctuary ready to be appreciated or visited by barbequing family throngs and you will have step by step documented proof of your achievements and beautiful photographs of special moments in time.

Reach In Closet Organization Ideas

Many homes are short on closet space.  If your home has reach in closets, then you know exactly what we’re talking about!  Reach in closets can be long, but are often shallow.  This can mean that the actual usable square footage of the closet is really not that much.  Or, the arrangement of the closet is simply inconvenient and hard to organize.  Use these tips that we’ve collected from master organizers to help you turn that small, reach in closet into an organized area that is easy to use and maybe most importantly, easy to keep organized once you get it that way.

1)  Take everything out of your closet and start measuring.  You may have more square footage than you think in there.  Most ceilings are between eight and nine feet.  Most reach in closets are eight feet long and four feet deep.  If you have eight foot ceilings, that gives you two-hundred and fifty six feet of space.

If you have nine foot ceilings, you probably have around two-hundred eighty eight feet of space.  That sounds like a lot, right?  Well, it actually is.  The general design of these closets was originally intended to help you keep a larger bedroom while still having a closet space.  However, the standard “shelf above a bar” arrangement does not make very good use of the space that is there.

2)  Draw up a design, shop for closet organizers, and look online to get ideas for what would work best in your closet.  There are many closet systems, even solid wood and cedar ones that can be purchased one section at a time.  This can help you to buy a little at a time so that you can afford the best system for your closet.  It can also help you to figure out which sections you would like more of.

Adjustable shelving is really useful for changing out your seasonal wardrobes and making the system work well year-round.

3)  Think about how many of your wardrobe items will work well on shelves.  You may not need to hang everything.  You can make your shelves really deep and use the back side of them for storage.  You can place a riser on a shelf to lift up items that are too far back to easily see.  Think about moving the hanging bar back into the closet a little further so that you can run shelving up the front sides of the closet.  The top shelf can be raised enough to hang two hanging bars, even with an eight foot ceiling.  Use clothes hangers that help you to save space and coordinate outfits.  Your hangers can help you to stay organized while keeping your clothes wrinkle-free.

Tax Handling – An Organizing Idea

Amongst the best ideas to make sure your taxes are paid is to keep a record, perhaps in a Word document, of ALL your income sources. While it may seem like an unrealistic idea initially, it actually is not that difficult. It is a cery good idea to use online banking nowadays, as certain income sources may just simply have payments transferred to those. Although there are records obviously already kept in an account for online banking, keep a list of the particular income source, the date in which you got paid, and the amount. Include any extra information here you so please.

Apply that to each payment, and when it comes time to pay your taxes or provide some kind of report, you will have a reliable source to fall back on if you are ever questiooned about something in this area. Comparing your list to possible future reports may spare you from also making what may be a significant mistake during what would be that time as well. In conclusion, records of your income sources and hw you got each payment should make things in general far easier when it comes time to pay your taxes or hand in reports. It can also help you more accurately address your situation when the time comes.

Consider the payments that go towards highways, for instance, exports and importa if you find yourself  being sort of frustrated in this area, and you might find increased appreciation for the overall use of taxes. There are likely ways taxes benefit us all in ways we do not even realize.

Best Ways to Store Items for a Home Business

Has the thought of starting a home-based business or working from home crossed your mind? Is your home office space an unsightly mess? Are you tired of losing or having a difficult time finding important items that pertain to your business? There are ways to solve these problems. You will learn some of the greatest storage solutions you can use for your home office.

One of the greatest storage solutions that exist for a home office is a desk. A desk can be a business owner’s one-stop, one-size-fits-all place for neatly keeping the materials that are included in the operations of the business. An exceptional desk for a home office is one that is very long, made of a strong material and contains ample drawer space.

Another storage source you should consider is a sturdy file cabinet. The file cabinet can be one of your greatest friends for storage, especially if you organize it properly. It is helpful to put your important documents and customer files in folders that are labeled. You should consider using one shelf of your file cabinet to contain folders that are categorically labeled and another shelf to contain folders that are alphabetically labeled.

Do you possess a computer in your home? If so, you should store at least a portion of your business information on your computer for convenience and the ability to deliver information to clients electronically.

It is an intelligent idea to use a backup disk for your computer. If you ever encounter a situation in which your computer malfunctions or is damaged, you will be a lot better off if you have a copy of your client database and other invaluable information on an extra disk that is not located inside your computer.

Consider purchasing a fireproof safe for your home office. Some of the things you keep locked up in your safe should include your computer backup disk and other materials you would have a difficult time doing without in the event of a disaster.

Another invaluable storage solution is a computer flash junk drive. In addition to providing outstanding convenience for containing and saving information, it is very easy to carry around and use anywhere you go.

Do you have a problem with misplacing telephone calling cards and papers that contain telephone numbers? You can help solve this problem by keeping these items in a case that contains several pockets or compartments on your desk.

Consider using your nearest closet for your home business. If you lack space in your desk and other places, you could benefit from clearing out your closet to make room for storing some of your business items.

Let these tips be great storage solutions for your home office!

Small Business Storage Solutions: Self-Storage Facilities

When you’re starting out in a small business, you often find that your storage requirements can’t be met by your current location. The inventory, merchandise, and equipment you need to run your home business may be overflowing your house, or your small business may require extra storage space. Finances may not allow you to build a larger garage or warehouse just yet. When you need temporary, convenient storage for your business needs, renting a self-storage unit may be the solution.

Self-storage facilities are springing up everywhere, and there may be several close to your home or place of business. Self-employed plumbers, carpenters, electricians, and mechanics often have large equipment or tools they don’t use every day but still need easy access to. Retailers and wholesalers may have large inventories that they just can’t keep organized in a home environment or too-small warehouse. A conveniently located self-storage locker can give you that extra space you need and easy access to your inventory, tools, extra office supplies and other business equipment.

When choosing a self-storage facility for business purposes, there are a few questions you need to ask the owner of the self-storage facility. You may need to do some basic maintenance on the equipment you keep there. Does each individual unit have a light inside, and is an electrical outlet available? Will the facility owners allow such maintenance work in the unit?

Ask about the self-storage facility’s security features, too. Is there video surveillance and are the grounds patrolled regularly? Are the grounds well-lit and carefully maintained? Is the security fence intact, with access available only to tenants? Have there been break-ins recently? Are fire alarms and sprinkler systems installed? Move on if you’re not satisfied with the safety of the self-storage facility.

Some self-storage lockers are climate-controlled, but many aren’t. Ask about climate-controlled units if you need to keep your business assets from extremes of temperature and humidity. Most self-storage facilities will offer basic insurance for an extra fee, but it may not cover the full value of your contents. Some homeowners’ or buisness owners’ insurance policies may cover stored possessions; check your policy before buying extra insurance.

Since the cost of self-storage increases with the size of the unit, you’ll want to be sure not to rent too much extra space, but you’ll need enough space to move around in and to move equipment in and out. Estimate the amount of space you will need by arranging your equipment or inventory in an open space, and measuring the square footage. You can put free-standing shelving units or file cabinets in your self-storage locker to increase the storage space, or hang a peg board (ask the self-storage facility owner first) to keep hand tools and other small items within reach.

Using self-storage units can pay off in more than just extra storage space. Your work environment will be more relaxed when the tools of your trade are organized and convenient, and workspace isn’t full of stress-inducing clutter. You’ll be more productive when you aren’t constantly tripping over the overflow, and you know where to find what you want!

Home Organization Tip – Stop Procrastinating

Procrastination is one of our biggest enemies, but we can overcome it very easily. There are many reasons to procrastinate:

we do not have enough time right now – so, instead of doing what we need to do now, we decide to do it tomorrow or this weekend or later.
we are tired – maybe we will have more energy tomorrow.
we just don’t feel like it – maybe we will feel like it later.

How can we overcome these feelings? Take the task that you are not looking forward to doing and break it into bite-size pieces. For instance, if you need to clean the whole house, but you don’t have time to clean the whole house, do something simple. Just clean the kitchen counters or take out the trash right now. If you find that you still have a little bit of time left, pick up one type of clutter. For instance, pick up only trash or dirty clothes that you find in your bedroom. You know the whole house needs to be cleaned. It will take hours to clean the whole house. But how long will it take to pick up the dirty clothes in your bedroom? It will probably not take more than five or ten minutes. And It will make a huge difference if you have a lot of dirty clothes lying on the floor.

Next time you get a chance to do a little cleaning, do the same thing in the bathroom or another bedroom. Before you know it, every room will be clean, but you only did a few minutes worth of work each day.
