He decides to accept the job and begins turning his life around.  In a few years, Tom becomes a union organizer, helping his bosses establish themselves in shops all along the East Coast.  With hard work, Tom reaches the rank of top Organizer and Boss himself.

This novel delves into the darker, sinister world of union politics and some of the mobsters who run it. Tom finds himself caught between the hard reality of his job and the soft memories of his lost wife and family. Can he ever leave the union? Does he already know too many secrets? Will his past catch up with him?
